Getting your company drives into File Explorer
Your company keeps shared folders that everyone uses. This page shows how to make them appear in File Explorer so they are one click away.
How to use SharePoint
Official Microsoft video explaining what SharePoint is. Your company's shared folders live in a SharePoint site, in a library usually called Documents.

Part A: Add a SharePoint shared folder to File Explorer
You only do this once per shared folder. After that it stays in File Explorer, just like your OneDrive.
-
Make sure OneDrive is signed in
Check for the blue cloud next to the clock in the bottom-right corner. If it is gray, follow the OneDrive guide first.
-
Open Microsoft 365 in your browser
Open Edge or Chrome, type office.com in the address bar, press Enter, and sign in with your work account.
-
Open SharePoint
Click the grid of nine dots in the top-left corner (the app launcher), then click SharePoint. If you do not see it, click All apps and find it in the list.
-
Open your company's site
Under Following or Frequent sites, click your company or department site (it may be named after your company or a team like Operations). If nothing is listed, use the search box at the top and type your company name.
Tip If you cannot find the right site, your manager or NTM can send you a link. Clicking the link opens the site directly.
-
Click Documents
In the menu on the left side of the site, click Documents. You will see the shared folders and files.
-
Click Sync
In the toolbar above the files, click Sync (it has two circling arrows). If you do not see it, click the three dots ... in the toolbar to find it.
-
Allow it to open OneDrive
Your browser asks whether to open Microsoft OneDrive. Click Open (or Open Microsoft OneDrive). A small OneDrive window may appear and then close on its own.
-
Find it in File Explorer
Open File Explorer (the yellow folder on the taskbar). In the left column, look for a blue building icon with your company name. Click it. Your shared folders are inside. They work just like any other folder: open, save, drag and drop.
Note The first time, files may take a few minutes to appear while they sync. Leave the computer on and connected to the internet.
Part B: Find or connect a network drive (drive letter)
Only some companies still use these. If you were told you have an S: drive, Z: drive or similar, read on.
-
Open File Explorer and click This PC
Click the yellow folder on the taskbar, then click This PC in the left column.
-
Look under Network locations
Scroll down. Drives with a letter and a cable or globe icon under Network locations are your company drives. Double-click one to open it.
Already there? You are done. NTM usually connects these automatically when you sign in.
-
If a drive has a red X
Double-click it anyway. Often it just needs to wake up. If it still does not open, make sure you are on the office network or connected to the company VPN, then try again.
-
If the drive is missing: connect it yourself
You will need the folder address from NTM. It looks like \\servername\sharedfolder. Then:
- In File Explorer, click This PC.
- Click the three dots ... in the toolbar at the top, then click Map network drive.
- Pick a letter from the Drive list (for example S:).
- Click in the Folder box and type the folder address exactly as given.
- Make sure Reconnect at sign-in is checked.
- Click Finish. If asked for a username and password, use your work email and password.
